K Srilata’s most recent collection of poems, titled Footnotes to the
Mahabharata, the research for which was supported by the India
Foundation for the Arts is just out from Westland/Context. Srilata’s
poems have been widely anthologized and feature in collections such
as The Bloodaxe Book of Contemporary Indian Poets and The Penguin
Book of Indian Poets. Her book This Kind of Child: The `Disability’
Story (Westland) is a book about the disability experience. Srilata’s
books include five collections of poetry including Three Women in a
Single-Room House (Sahitya Akademi), the anthologies The Rapids of
a Great River: The Penguin Book of Tamil Poetry and Short Fiction
from South India (OUP), among others. Srilata’s novel Table for Four
(Penguin, India) was long listed in 2009 for the Man Asian literary prize.
Srilata has been writer in residence at the University of Stirling,
Scotland, at Yeonhui Art Space, Seoul and at Sangam House.
Formerly a Professor of Literature at IIT Madras, Srilata is currently
Distinguished Visiting Professor at SNU, Chennai.
